Yesterday I had the most tiring day ever.
Next week I’m going back to Hong Kong. But my passport expiring date is in a few month’s time, so will have problems getting through. So I need to settle this by this week. Tuesday morning I need to wake up real early to go ICA to check out about this issue. Bb gave me morning call at 6am, so nice of him.. Although I fell asleep till 6.30am, but this call really helps.. :D thanks Bb.
Reached ICA at 8.15am. Didn’t managed to do anything cause need to take oath then can renew passport. But before take oath I need to surrender my British passport.
Yesterday I took leave, initially I took morning half day leave, but after that I need to apply for full day.
When I was in ICA, I called my manager, she said can take full day, but she ask me to come back to work for the 5.30 to 6pm shift. That time I was like, ‘huh? Come back to work that shift? Crazy.. No way I will go back man…’
Yesterday morning I woke up early again, rush to town area there to surrender my passport. First time I been there. The security is really tight man. Need to surrender all my electronic devices before going in the premises. The operating hours is till noon, so need to be there earlier. Reached the office, not much people there, only 1 or 2 are there. I seriously have problem understanding the person’s accent. I filled up a form, then pass my letter and passport to the counter person.
Counter person: do you know that you need to photocopy two copies before you come here? I have the rights to send you off you know? I’m doing this favour for you…
Me: huh? I didn’t know… thanks…
I really didn’t know, anyway the letter really didn’t mention need to do two copies of the documents that they need.
Counter person: you need to pay 183bucks for it, please go to another counter to pay (hand pointing to the counter beside her)
Me: can I pay by nets or visa?
Counter person: no, only cash. You can go tanglin mall withdraw money then come back. Need to be back before 12pm.
After that I need to walk all the way to tanglin mall and withdraw money. Oh man, it’s really ex man. 183 bucks!!! After that really no mood anymore. The weather is really hot that day, I was really sweating all over. After that went back to pay up. I got the letter than I said goodbye to my passport.
After that rush over to ICA. By then is around 11am. Called my dad. He shouted at me through the phone. He said he don’t know what am I doing, how come I didn’t go renew my passport and I go do so much nonsense. I tried to explain, he don’t understand at all. I gave up. That time I was very affected by the weather and the fact that I just paid 183 for renouncing my citizenship rights, my temper was not good also. I told him I know what I am doing, I said that I already explained to him, but he don’t understand. I hang up the phone shortly. Don’t feel like talking man, really not in good mood.
After that I reached ICA. Went to apply for appointment to take oath. The person asked for my citizenship cert. I didn’t bring! I already went yesterday and ask the same person what I need to bring, she didn’t tell me about this. I got my mum to bring it over to me. While waiting, I went to look for my dad. He still sound super unfriendly on the phone. I told him I will go meet him in person and explain the procedure again.
Went over, almost quarreled with him over this issue. Then after that he understand and his tone sound a lot better. Had my lunch there, after that went back to meet mum at ICA.
Went up to 6th floor to register. After that I went into a room to take oath. Feels weird to stand up and raise my right hand and take oath… funny feeling. After I sign some documents and I’m out of the room, whole event only took less than 5 mins.
After that, I went to third floor to extend my passport expiring date. Phew, after so many rounds of long wait, finally everything’s over. After that went to golden mile food centre to have a drink with mum before going home. I called manager that I’m not going back to work. Everyone who is in the right mind will definitely won’t waste time and energy to go back work just for that half an hour.
